Channapatna. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy warned that there will be anarchy in Karnataka in the coming days. He hit out at the state Congress government for filing a case against a saint of Vokkaliga Math for making statements in favor of depriving Muslims of voting rights. The Janata Dal (Secular) leader, who belongs to the Vokkaliga community, also questioned the administration’s prompt action against the saint and said no action was taken against a minister who made racist remarks against him.
A case was registered against Vishva Vokkaliga Mahasamastana Math seer Kumar Chandrashekarnath Swami for making a statement in the wake of the Waqf properties dispute that a law should be brought under which the Muslim community should not have the right to vote. However, Swamy later regretted his statement and called it a slip of the tongue. Kumaraswamy questioned, they (government) have registered a case and hastily served a notice to the saint, but have they taken any action or issued a notice against the person who made racial remarks against me? No case has been registered. Why was no action taken?
Speaking to reporters in Channapatna, the JD(S) leader said, taking such decisions will lead to anarchy in the state in the coming days. Just keep watching. Kumaraswamy was referring to minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan calling him Kalia during the recent campaign for the by-election in Channapatna assembly constituency, which the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rejected as a racial slur. Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R Ashok had also on Friday termed the case against the saint as an insult to the Vokkaliga community and said that if he was harassed, the BJP would take to the streets and protest.
