YEARS

In his resignation letter, Rehman also accused AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal of avoiding public issues for his own political gains. He wrote on X that today I am resigning from the primary membership of Aam Aadmi Party.

In a major blow to the Aam Aadmi Party before the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi, Seelampur MLA Abdul Rehman left the party on Tuesday. In his resignation letter, Rehman also accused AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal of avoiding public issues for his own political gains. He wrote on X that today I am resigning from the primary membership of Aam Aadmi Party. The party ignored the rights of Muslims by getting entangled in power politics, Arvind Kejriwal always did his politics by running away from public issues. I will continue to fight for justice and rights.

Even though he left the party, his display picture on social media remains the same – a picture of Kejriwal in jail with the caption ‘Modi’s biggest fear is Arvind Kejriwal’. His departure is a major blow to AAP, especially in constituencies with a largely Muslim voter base, and could impact the party’s electoral prospects. His decision to leave AAP comes just months after he resigned as minority cell chairman on October 29.

Rehman chose to go public about his decision to step down in a post x minutes after AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal joined the Delhi Congress. Has included powerful leader Chaudhary Mateen Ahmed’s son Zubair Ahmed and daughter-in-law Shagufta in his party. The party has given ticket to Zubair Ahmed from Seelampur. Rehman’s decision is a major blow to the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP as it comes just ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections where the party is expected to retain power. Assembly elections are to be held in 2025. The current tenure of Delhi Assembly ends on February 23, 2025.
