Both houses, located near the famous Qissa Khawani Bazaar, are considered symbols of Peshawar’s deep ties to Indian cinema.

Pakistani cultural and film lovers gathered at Peshawar’s ‘Kapoor House’ to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of veteran Bollywood filmmaker and actor Raj Kapoor and celebrated his birth anniversary by cutting a cake. Those attending the event also welcomed the World Bank’s announcement of allocating Rs 10 crore for the renovation of the ancestral homes of Raj Kapoor and veteran Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar. Both houses, located near the famous Qissa Khawani Bazaar, are considered symbols of Peshawar’s deep ties to Indian cinema.

The event, jointly organized by the ‘Cultural Heritage Council’ (CHC) and the Directorate of Archeology Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, called for organizing large-scale events to commemorate Kapoor’s legacy. Those present at the event emphasized Kapoor’s ties with Pakistan and praised his indelible mark on cinema.

Kapoor was born on 14 December 1924 in Dhaki Nalbandi, Peshawar and died in 1988. Secretary of ‘Pak-Iran Trade and Investment Council’ Mohammad Hussain Hydari was present as the chief guest in this program. Raj Kapoor, son of veteran actor Prithviraj Kapoor, made films like ‘Awara’, ‘Barsaat’, ‘Shree 420’, ‘Sangam’ and ‘Mera Naam Joker’ during his 40-year-long career.
