Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement has come on the discovery of a 46-year-old temple in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. CM Yogi raised this issue in a program and asked whether the administration built such an ancient temple in Sambhal overnight? Did such an ancient statue of Bajrangbali appear there overnight? CM Yogi asked the question that why those criminals who committed genocide in Sambhal 46 years ago have not been punished till date? Why is this not discussed?

Let us tell you that the district administration is running a campaign against encroachment and electricity theft in Sambhal. Under this operation, officials found this temple on Saturday. Officials also found a Shivalinga and an idol of Hanuman in the temple. Local people claim that this temple was closed since the members of the Hindu community fled from here after the communal riots in 1978.

Deputy District Magistrate Vandana Mishra, who is leading the operation, said, ‘While inspecting the area, we suddenly came across this temple. After this I immediately informed the district officials. Then we decided to reopen the temple. He further informed that local residents have confirmed that this temple was closed since 1978. He said that there is also a well near the temple and the authorities are planning to renovate it.

Mukesh Rastogi, a resident of Kot Garvi in Sambhal district, said, ‘We had heard a lot about this temple from our ancestors. This is an ancient temple, but it was closed for a long time. Since people of a particular community live there, that temple was closed.” He said that this temple has been closed since the riots in Sambhal in 1978, we have heard that it must be at least 500 years old.

Vishnu Shankar Rastogi, 82, patron of Nagar Hindu Mahasabha, said, I have been living in Khaggu Sarai since my birth. After the riots of 1978, people of our community were forced to migrate from this area. This temple dedicated to our Vice Chancellor has been closed since then. He further told that our house used to be in Khaggu Sarai also. About 25-30 Hindu families lived there. After the 1978 riots, we sold the house and left the place. This is a very ancient temple and was called the temple of Rastogi community. Earlier people of our community used to come here to worship.
