Indian star spinner R Ashwin has announced his retirement after the Gabba Test was drawn. He put an end to his 14-year career on Wednesday. Ashwin is one of the legendary bowlers of the country. Ashwin is counted among the greats like Bishan Bedi, E Prasanna, S Chandrasekhar, Venkataraghavan and Anil Kumble. He set many big records in his career and became one of the most successful spinners of the country.

Ashwin has taken 537 wickets in his Test career. He is the second Indian to take the most wickets in the Test format. Anil Kumble is at the first place in this list. Kumble has taken 619 wickets in his name. Ashwin had said some time ago that he is not keeping an eye on anyone’s record and will take retirement when he feels that he is not able to improve.

Ashwin is the Indian bowler who has taken five wickets the most number of times in an innings. He has done this feat 37 times. Also, Ashwin is the player who has won the Player of the Series award the most number of times in Tests. Ashwin has done this 11 times. In this matter he is at par with Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.
