A ferry carrying passengers capsized near the Gateway of India in Mumbai on Wednesday, killing one person. According to the information, this incident happened when the ferry was going from Gateway of India to Elephanta Island. Meanwhile, police said that officials are investigating the incident.

There were 56 passengers on board the boat and so far around 21 have been rescued. Rescue operations are currently underway with the assistance of Navy, JNPT, Coast Guard, local police and local fishing boats. The incident happened around 4 pm on Wednesday and there is no news of any casualty so far.

The rescue operation has been launched in coordination between the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Police. In this operation, 11 boats of the Navy, three boats of the Marine Police and one ship of the Coast Guard are actively searching the area. Additionally, four helicopters have been deployed for search and rescue (SAR) operations to locate the remaining passengers.
