Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kuwait for a two-day visit at the invitation of Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait. PM Modi’s visit to Kuwait, the first by an Indian prime minister in 43 years, comes two weeks after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria and amid signs of a possible ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The last Indian Prime Minister to visit Kuwait was Indira Gandhi in 1981.Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the hotel. During this he was welcomed. Met the Indian community gathered to welcome him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met 101-year-old former IFS officer Mangal San Handa in Kuwait City.

During the visit, Modi will hold discussions with Kuwait’s leadership and meet the Indian community. Before leaving for Kuwait, he said that his talks with the top Kuwaiti leadership would be an opportunity to chart a roadmap for the future partnership between India and Kuwait. He said that we greatly value the historical relations with Kuwait that have continued for generations. We are not only strong trade and energy partners, but we also have common interests in peace, security, stability and prosperity in the West Asian region. Modi said he was very much looking forward to his meeting with the Amir, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait.

Modi is visiting Kuwait at a time when President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria fell two weeks ago and Israel’s attacks on Gaza continue. In a statement before his departure, Modi said his talks with the top leadership of Kuwait will provide an opportunity to chart the future partnership between India and Kuwait. He said that we greatly value the historical relations with Kuwait, which have been maintained for generations. We are not only strong partners in trade and energy, but we also have a common interest in peace, security and stability in West Asia.
