Stress increased again in Manipur! Protesters threatened to set themselves on fire, curfew was imposed in the entire area, internet also stopped

Internet and mobile data services have been suspended in the valley districts of Manipur after violent protests and clashes between protesters and security forces in the state capital on Saturday evening. Curfew has been imposed in Bishnupur district, while the movement of five or more people has been banned in other valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thob and Kakching.On Saturday night, the unrest broke out after reports of the arrest of a leader of the Maetai organization Arambai Teengol and some other members.
The protesters burnt tires and old furniture in the middle of the roads, surrounded the airport entrance and clashed with the security forces demanding the release of the leader. Some of them also attempted self -immolation in Imphal. The situation remained tense on Sunday. Around 2 pm on Sunday, the Manipur Police confirmed this on the social media platform X (East Twitter) and shared copies of the order of suspension, curfew and prohibition of internet services.

Manipur disturbance
– Violence erupted again after reports claiming the arrest of a leader of Mitei organization Arambai Teengol. Although the police did not disclose the allegations of the arrested person or the allegations against him, the reports have revealed that the leader is Kanan Singh.
– On Saturday night, protesters clashed with security forces at several places in the state capital. In the Khurai Lamlong area of ​​Imphal Eastern district, a fierce mob set a bus on fire. In Quakethel, the sound of several bullets was heard, although it is not clear who fired the bullet.
After unconfirmed reports of taking the arrested leader out of the state, the protesters also gathered outside the Gate of Imphal Airport in Tulihal. The protesters blocked the airport road to prevent any attempt to take the leader out of Manipur, even sleeping on it overnight.

– Security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the agitated crowd. A person has been reported to have been reported to be casualties due to lathicharge by forces. Additional personnel have been deployed in disturbed areas to bring the situation under control and security has been increased on the roads leading to Raj Bhavan.
– Curfew has been imposed in Bishnupur district, while prohibitors have been implemented banning the gathering of five or more people in the valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thulbal and Kakching.
– Internet services have been suspended for five days in the Valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thumb, Kakching and Bishnupur due to the possibility of efforts to incite the police online violence.
– In a viral video, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Lesamba Sanazaoba is seen talking to security personnel on the road. In the video, he can be heard saying, “We have tried hard to bring peace. If you do such things, how will peace be maintained? Arrest me and the MLA who came with me.”
– Arambai Teengol has announced a ten -day full shutdown in the districts of the valley from today, as it is preparing to intensify its opposition. The Maetai organization, which began as a cultural resurrection group, has been developed as a controversial militia involved in the ongoing ethnic violence since then. The group had recently discussed with the Governor and also handed over some of its weapons.
– Two years ago, the security forces have been conducting search operations and arrests in Manipur since ethnic violence between Kuki and Maetai communities. On Saturday, he arrested three militants associated with two restricted organizations and recovered improvised explosive devices (IED) in Tangnowpal district.
Since May 2023, more than 260 people have died in ethnic violence between Maetai and Cookie-Zo groups and thousands of people have become homeless. Following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the Center implemented President’s rule in Manipur in February.
