Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah arrived in Tamil Nadu on Saturday night. This is his second important tour in two months. His visit is to strengthen the party machinery before the 2026 assembly elections in the state. His visit took place exactly a week after the ruling DMK held a meeting of his important general council and condemning the Center, just a week later.

BJP sources said that Shah will visit Meenakshi Amman temple on Sunday morning, where he is expected to spend about 30 minutes. He will then hold a meeting with the core committee of the state, including Union Minister of State L. Murugan, BJP State President Nanar Nagenthan, former Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan, former state unit president K Annamalai, MLA Vanthi Srinivasan and some other leaders. The meeting is likely to last an hour. Later, Shah will address a gathering at Velmal Global Hospital Ground in Othakai.

It also comes under the backdrop of the leadership between the father-son duo in the BJP’s ally party, and DMDK is an ally of the opposition AIADMK, with which Shah tied up during his visit to Chennai on April 10, expressed his displeasure over the (DMDK) not allotted the Rajya Sabha seat by AIADMK as promised in 2024. In addition, former Chief Minister and AIADMK expelled leader O Panneerselvam recently regretted that Shah did not meet him during his visit to Chennai.
