Guwahati . Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma termed Congress as a ‘shameless’ party using the name of Constitution maker Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar for ‘political gains’. He claimed that Congress launched countless schemes and established many institutions in the name of leaders from Jawaharlal Nehru’s family, but no such thing was done in the name of Ambedkar. Sharma told reporters here, “Congress has no shame. The same party which imposed Emergency, suspended the Constitution, murdered democracy, the same Congress is taking out a procession in the name of the Constitution.
He said that it would not be an exaggeration to call Congress ‘shameless’. He said that Congress started Indira Gandhi Awas Yojana, started many schemes in the name of Rajiv Gandhi and named many big universities of the country after Jawaharlal Nehru. Sharma said, “…but have you dedicated even a single scheme in the name of Babasaheb Ambedkar? Leave aside the university, have you even named a school after him? Sharma said, “Can anyone tell me whether there was any picture of Ambedkar in Rajiv Bhawan before today? I was in Congress for 22 years and I did not see any of his photographs in Rajiv Bhawan.
He said that Ambedkar Jayanti was celebrated in the All India Congress Committee on Tuesday. He expressed surprise as to when Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi started garlanding Ambedkar’s statue or portrait. He said, “When Ambedkar resigned from the cabinet, it was said that the country would not suffer any loss. You gave Bharat Ratna to everyone in the world, but not to Ambedkar.” The Chief Minister said, ”Today Ambedkar’s memory, ideology, sacrifice have been weaponized to gain political mileage. Such a shameful act has never happened before in India.
