The tenure of the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly ends in November this year, while the tenure of the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly ends on January 5, 2025. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), aims to gain power in the western state. A statement has come out from Congress regarding seat sharing. Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole said that the seat sharing meeting has not been completed yet. Maha Vikas Aghadi will contest elections on 288 seats. We are fully prepared for the elections.

On the appointment of seven MLCs, he said that this is an election gimmick. BJP is teaching the entire country how the constitutional system is violated. When they are not even listening to the Supreme Court, it shows that it is the BJP’s job to misuse power. After the change of government in Maharashtra in 2022 and Shinde becoming the Chief Minister, the new cabinet had written a letter to the Governor saying that it was withdrawing the pending list of 12 names submitted by the previous government. On September 5, 2022, the Governor accepted the decision of the Cabinet and the list was returned to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Of the seven MLC seats, ruling coalition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got three seats and Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have got two seats each. The newly nominated members from BJP include state women’s unit chief Chitra Wagh, state general secretary Vikrant Patil and spiritual leader of Banjara community Babusinh Maharaj Rathore. NCP has nominated former MLA Pankaj Bhujbal and popular minority face from western Maharashtra Idris Naikwadi, while Shiv Sena has nominated former MLC Manisha Kayande and former Lok Sabha member Hemant Patil.
