A senior leader of Bangladesh’s main opposition party BNP publicly burnt an India-made bedsheet in a symbolic protest amid rising tensions between the two neighbours. The party’s senior joint general secretary Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi allegedly set fire to a bedsheet manufactured in Rajasthan’s Jaipur during a ‘Boycott Indian Products’ event in Rajshahi city on Tuesday.

Holding the printed bedsheet, the BNP leader announced that the bedsheet was from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, India. This bedsheet is made by Jaipur Textile. We are doing this in protest against Indian aggression. He then threw the sheet on the road and instructed the party members to burn it. After this, BNP workers sprinkled kerosene oil on the bedsheet and set it on fire. He was also seen stomping his feet on it while the crowd raised pro-Bangladesh and anti-India slogans.

Referring to the ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Rizvi said that we are boycotting Indian products because they are not suitable for the people of this country. His friendship is only with Sheikh Hasina. This is not the first time Rizvi has boycotted Indian products. Last week, he had set his wife’s Indian-made saree on fire in protest against the desecration of the Bangladeshi national flag in India.
