Singapore: A man sentenced to six months for posting anti-Islam posts

A Singapore court on Monday sentenced a man to six months in jail for making comments against the religion of Islam through digital medium using another person’s identity.

In the news released in ‘Channel News Asia’ (CNA), it was told that a person named Chua Wang Cheng (33) had created a fake account on the social media platform ‘Facebook’ in the name of a person whom he did not like.

After this the accused shared videos insulting the religion of Islam. The man was also found guilty of hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims by making comments on the Facebook pages of various media outlets, the report said.

According to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), a video posted by the accused made baseless claims and was designed to insult the religion of Islam and the Prophet Mohammed.

In the second video, derogatory things were said towards Islam, Prophet Mohammed and the Muslim community. The prosecutor said that although the accused Chua had not made these videos, he had shared these videos with the intention of hurting the religious sentiments of Muslim Facebook users.

According to Singapore law, a person found guilty of an intentional act intended to outrage racial or religious feelings can be jailed for up to three years, fined, or both.
