The Allahabad High Court stayed the arrest of Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair in connection with an FIR lodged at a Ghaziabad police station last month. Prayagraj. The Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed the arrest of Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair in connection with an FIR lodged at a Ghaziabad police station last month. On the complaint of Udita Tyagi, an associate of controversial saint Yati Narasimhanand, a case was registered against Zubair on charges of promoting enmity between religious groups and many other charges. A bench of Justice Siddharth Verma and Justice Nalin Kumar Srivastava passed an order to stay the arrest of Zubair.

The complaint lodged by Udita Tyagi, general secretary of Yeti Narasimhanand Saraswati Trust, claimed that Zubair had posted a video of an old program of Yeti Narasimhanand on October 3, 2024 with the intention of inciting violence among Muslims against him. The complaint also alleged that Zubair posted an edited video of Narasimhanand on ‘X’, which included Narasimhanand’s alleged inflammatory comments about Prophet Mohammed. According to the complaint, the purpose of this post was to incite violent sentiments against Narasimhanand and in this post, Zubair had described Narasimhanand’s alleged speech as “derogatory”.

Mohammed Zubair has been booked under Indian Judicial Code sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 356(3) (defamation) and 351 (2 An FIR was lodged under IPC (Punishment for Criminal Intimidation). In his writ petition, Zubair has sought quashing of the FIR from the court and protection from harassment action. Zubair’s lawyer argued that his post on ‘X’ did not incite violence but merely alerted the police about Narasimhanand’s actions and demanded action as per law.
