In Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, a mob of villagers allegedly attacked a police team and tried to rescue a rewarded criminal from its custody. With difficulty, the police caught the miscreant and took him to the police station.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rohit Mishra said that the inspector in-charge of Salempur police station had received information that Fakhruddin, a criminal wanted in Prayagraj with a reward of Rs 20,000, was hiding somewhere in Nangla Mewati village under Shikarpur police station area.
Mishra told that on this the team of Salempur police station caught the accused and when the police team started taking him away, the people of the village surrounded him and attacked the police and tried to free the accused.
He told that the police pulled the accused Fakhruddin and made him sit in the car but the villagers allegedly opened fire on the police and in self-defense the police also opened fire and took the accused to the police station.
Mishra said that it has been learned that a person has been injured by a bullet in his leg and he is being treated in the district hospital. He told that a case is being registered by the police.
Strict legal action will be taken against unruly elements as per rules. However, when contacted, Shikarpur Area Officer (CO) Vikas Pratap Singh Chauhan told PTI that there was no “cross firing”. He said, “A villager was injured in the firing. But it is not known how he got injured.” The CO said that the injured person is being treated in Bulandshahr.
