Today, in various towns and cities of India, especially in metropolitan cities, the problem of addiction among young citizens is seen to be taking a severe form. In some parts of the country, students in schools and colleges are also becoming victims of drug addiction. If the youth of India is going in the wrong direction then it is a matter of great concern for the future of India. In the state of Punjab of the country, the situation has reached a very bad condition and even in the rural areas, youth are being found indulging in various types of addictions. Consumption of drugs not only has adverse effects on health but also makes the youth mentally disturbed.
According to medical science, long-term consumption of drugs causes damage to the liver, lungs, heart and brain. Consumption of drugs weakens the immune system, due to which a person can easily fall ill. Taking excessive amounts of drugs can cause a person to go into a coma or even die. Similarly, consumption of drugs promotes mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. Since a person taking drugs becomes addicted to them, that person becomes mentally and emotionally dependent on the drugs.

The behavior of a person addicted to drugs also becomes aggressive, due to which tension and fights increase in the family. By spending money on drugs, the financial condition of the person and his family also starts to deteriorate. Money is required to buy drugs, if the financial condition of the family has deteriorated and the youth do not get money from the family, then due to drug addiction the youth get involved in theft, robbery or other illegal activities. . This situation cannot be called good for India because firstly, the contribution of that youth in the development of the country becomes almost zero, secondly, that person becomes a burden on his family and society.
We often target tobacco prohibition by raising the fear of cancer in the case of drinking and smoking. While there are many types of addictions. It is important to understand the different types of drugs and their effects so that their misuse can be avoided. A healthy and safe society can be created only by spreading awareness about the physical, mental and social harm caused by drugs. Today the availability of drugs in the country has become very easy. Many international gangs capture Indian youth, provide them with many types of drugs and make them addicted to them. There are many types of drugs also. Like, (1) Depressants: Alcohol, barbiturates, benzodiazepines etc. are included in this category. These types of drugs slow down brain activity, causing a person to feel calm or relaxed. But, if taken in excess, it can cause shortness of breath, unconsciousness and death. (2) Stimulants: Cocaine, methamphetamine, caffeine etc. are included in this category. These drugs increase the activity of the brain and nervous system, thereby increasing agility and energy. Its excessive consumption can cause problems like rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, and nervousness. (3) Opioids: Heroin, morphine, codeine etc. are included in this category. These types of drugs are pain relievers, but they are abused as an addiction. Overuse of opioids slows down the respiratory system, which can lead to coma or death. (4) Psychedelics: Drugs like LSD, Psilocybin (mushroom), DMT etc. are included in this category and these types of drugs change the perception, thoughts and mood of the person. It can cause hallucinations. (5) Inhalants: Petrol, gum, spray paint etc. are included in this category. Intoxication is achieved by smelling these substances. It damages the brain and nervous system. (6) Cannabinoids: Hemp, hemp, hashish etc. are included in this category of drugs. These types of drugs provide a pleasurable experience, but taking them in excess can cause psychological problems.
Overall, the problem of drugs in the country seems to be taking a severe form and it has especially started affecting the youth. In fact, the youth, after watching films etc., starts considering its consumption as appropriate and tries to attain a higher position in the society by consuming it. He feels that drug abuse is common in high society. But, one remains completely unaware of the harm caused by intoxication. Therefore, it is very important to free the youth especially from drug addiction. However, in recent times, many films have been made on subjects like how youth face problems due to drug addiction, by watching these, awareness can be created among the youth. Udta Punjab (2016), this film tells the story of the drug problem in Punjab and the youth struggling with it. Sanju (2018), this film depicts the story of drug addiction among the youth and how to get out of it. Fashion (2008), this film depicts a model who becomes a victim of drug addiction in the world of fame. Darna Zaroori Hai (2006), the story of this film focuses on a particular drug addiction. Tamasha (2015), this film depicts the challenge of addiction and self-discovery. Similarly, some films have also been made at the international level. Requiem for a Dream (2000), this film depicts drug addiction and its devastating effects in great depth. Trainspotting (1996), this film shows the story of youth struggling with heroin addiction and shows the horrors of addiction. Beautiful Boy (2018), this film shows the story of a father and his son, in which the son Struggling with drug addiction. The Basketball Diaries (1995), this film tells the story of a teenager who gets trapped in drug addiction and his life is ruined. A Star Is Born (2018), this film depicts a young man struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, which affects his career and relationships.
Since today’s youth is more attracted towards films, the films made regarding getting rid of addictions have been described. But, today it has become necessary to run awareness campaigns by various organizations with a view to freeing the youth from drug addiction. Awareness campaigns based on the ill effects of addiction should be conducted in public places, schools, colleges and community centres. Film festivals, street plays, seminars, and using social media can be used to educate youth about the harms of addiction. Anti-drug education should be made a part of the curriculum in schools and colleges so that students can be educated about the dangers of addictions from a young age. Such strict legal action should be taken against the people involved in drug related activities that they become an example to the society. Surveillance on the sale of illegal liquor and drugs should be increased and strict punishment should be imposed on the culprits. NGOs and community based organizations working at the local level in various towns and cities should be included in the de-addiction campaign. These organizations can identify the addiction victims and provide them proper help and guidance. Families should be educated on how to prevent addiction and identify its symptoms. For this, parents should be motivated to pay attention to the behavior of their children and maintain communication. Youth should be involved in sports, music, dance, and other creative activities to create a drug-free India. This will keep them busy in positive activities and stay away from addiction. Youth should be given employment opportunities through skill development programs so that they get positive direction and stay away from addiction.

The volunteers of the Sangh have been carrying out their various service works in the society only by taking the society along. Efforts to solve that problem can be started right now. Are. If the entire society gets involved in solving any big problem, then no matter how big and serious the problem is, it can be solved on time. Therefore, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, being a cultural organization, is continuously making efforts to make India addiction free by taking the society along. Similarly, other religious, social and cultural organizations should also come forward and run such campaigns in different cities.
