Noida: Panic due to unknown knock at midnight, knocking sound came from the door, 172 girls left the hostel, and now…

In a shocking incident, a group of men barged into the campus hostel of Kumari Mayawati Government Girls Polytechnic College in Badalpur, Greater Noida, after midnight on Sunday to allegedly spy on girl students, leading to the arrest of 172 out of 187 girl students. Fearing for his safety he had to leave the hostel and return home. The incident also led to protests on the campus on Monday. However, this is not an isolated incident, the girl students claim that in the last week repeatedly a group of boys came there and even knocked on their doors.

However, the administration has come into action regarding this. Noida DM Manish Mishra said that on Monday morning information was received that some students and parents were present in a hostel of Polytechnic College, Badalpur. There were some issues due to which people were angry, after receiving the information the officers reached the spot. He said that two-three things come to our knowledge, some girls have security related concerns. The SDM talked to the girls and was telling all the problems but we did not find anything noteworthy.
He further said that the hostel wall has been fenced and all CCTV cameras have been switched on. Police personnel are also present for security. DM told that due to Navratri many students went home. Also, the results of second and third year were not declared and hence the number of students in the hostel was less. But, as it has now been announced, students have started arriving.

Earlier, a first-year student had told TOI that the girls were scared when they realized that men aged between 25 and 40 were peeping through their hostel room windows. According to the student, his screams and pleas for help went in vain as there was no one to help him. Another student said that women even avoid going to the washroom at night for fear of being spied on. “To feel safe, all the 15 girls staying in the hostel have moved into one room and were keeping vigil at night,” a second-year student told TOI.
